What is Chargeback?
A chargeback is a forced reversal of a card payment, initiated by the customer through their bank rather than by asking the merchant for a refund.
Chargebacks typically arise from disputed, undelivered or unrecognised transactions. The merchant usually loses the money and may pay a fee while the dispute is investigated.
The most effective defence is unglamorous: clear product descriptions, a recognisable name on the bank statement, proof of delivery, and answering support messages quickly enough that customers do not escalate to their bank.
