Who this is for: Neighbourhood retailers, bakeries, boutiques and service-area businesses selling within a local radius.
Local businesses have a different shape
A local shop is not trying to reach the whole country. Its customers are within a few kilometres, often already know the business, and frequently prefer to collect rather than wait for a courier. Most ecommerce advice ignores this entirely and optimises for national shipping the business does not want.
What a local business usually needs is simpler: a browsable, current catalogue, a way to take the order and the payment before the customer arrives, and no shipping cost at all.
Pickup is the underrated option
Store pickup removes shipping cost, packaging cost and RTO risk simultaneously, which makes it the most profitable fulfilment method available to a local seller. It also brings the customer into the shop, where they frequently buy more.
- Set pickup as a fulfilment option with your address and collection hours.
- Take payment online at checkout so collection is quick and unambiguous.
- Use order statuses to signal readiness, and message the customer when the order is packed.
- Keep courier delivery available for customers outside your radius, if you want it.
Working alongside WhatsApp
Local customers overwhelmingly prefer to message. Keep that. Put the store link in your WhatsApp Business profile and away message, and send direct product links when someone asks about an item. The conversation stays in WhatsApp; the catalogue, payment and order record move to the store.
Where we are not the right answer
- We do not handle table reservations, appointments or time-slot booking.
- There is no delivery-rider dispatch or route management — local delivery is something you arrange yourself.
- We are not a point-of-sale system for in-store counter billing.
- For restaurants needing live menu availability and kitchen workflow, a hospitality-specific platform will fit better.
Frequently asked questions
Can customers collect their order instead of paying for delivery?
Yes. Store pickup can be offered as a fulfilment option with your address and collection hours, and the customer can still pay online at checkout so collection is quick.
Can I limit delivery to my local area?
You can set your shipping approach to suit a local radius — including offering pickup only — rather than configuring national courier rates you do not intend to use.
